Ooo!
Laura Marling announces new album ‘Semper Femina’
News of her sixth record - out next March - comes along with a first taster, ‘Soothing’.
Some brilliant surprise news to brighten up your chilly Monday - Laura Marling has announced her sixth album, ‘Semper Femina’. It’s out on 10th March 2017.
Rumours about this new album have been floating around since May this year, with a track called ‘Wildfire’ emerging as another early hint of things to come. The title translates from Latin to mean ‘Always A Woman’.
Along with confirming the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Short Movie,’ the London folk musician has also shared a massive first taster, in the shape of haunting, textural cut ‘Soothing’. Taking some cues from the darker, more electronic direction of her previous record, it’s yet again evidence of Marling changing it up drastically.
Speaking about the album Marling said: “I started out writing ‘Semper Femina’ as if a man was writing about a woman. And then I thought it’s not a man, it’s me — I don’t need to pretend it’s a man to justify the intimacy of the way I’m looking and feeling about women. It’s me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them and by proxy towards myself.”
By the sounds of it, ‘Semper Femina’ will explore similar themes to Laura Marling’s recent podcast series Reversal of the Muse.
