Laura Marling announces new ‘Reversal Of The Muse’ project
She’s looking to explore the lack of women in a studio capacity within music.
Not content with working on that incoming new album, Laura Marling has today revealed a new, collaborative project title ‘Reversal Of The Muse’.
Set to take place across podcasts, photo diaries and studio recording team-ups, ‘Reversal Of The Muse’ aims to explore the lack of a feminine presence in recording studios. “In reversing the muse it became an experiment. As a small part of the global conversation about women in the arts, it became an obsession. It occurred to me that in ten years of making records I had only come across two female engineers working in studios,” explains Laura in a statement. “Starting from my experience of being a woman I began to ask myself what difference it might have made had I had more women around, if any. I wanted to know why progress has been so slow in this area and what effect it would have on music.”
Two new podcasts have been launched to kickstart the project - one featuring HAIM, and the other renowned US studio engineer Vanessa Parr. Further updates are expected weekly - ‘til then, you can grab those first two here.
Elsewhere, Laura’s been previewing new songs from album six live - they’re sounding very special indeed. Catch up with our March 2015 issue’s cover feature with Laura Marling.
