Listen to Lazy Day’s dreamy new single ‘Weird Cool’

The new release, on Art Is Hard Records, is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Lazy Day.

Fresh off the back of last year’s ‘Ribbons’ EP, Lazy Day - the London-based lo-fi quartet led by Tilly Scantlebury - have shared details of a new single, ‘Weird Cool’.The track, dreamy and spiky in equal measure, is playing first on DIY as today’s Neu Pick. Twinkling synths bring a sense of serenity to the track, but it’s one Scantlebury battles against with hyperactive, sharp vocals.“I wrote ‘Weird Cool’ last year when I was starting to feel really happy with

someone new,” she tells us of the new track. ”And even though things were becoming good, there was a looming dread that it could all turn rubbish.“I think ‘Weird Cool’ is a love song that’s scared to be a love song, and my intake of breath at the very start shows that - like when you’re psyching yourself up to say something difficult. Musically I wanted people to be able to move to it, something groovy and hypnotic. It’s really (weird) cool to be able to release new music so soon after the EP, so that there’s not such a time warp between my creative life and my actual life. It’s a good feeling.”The single is set to come out via Art Is Hard on a limited flexi-disc. Lazy Day are set to support DIY fave Alex Lahey on tour later this year, alongside a series of headline release shows for ‘Weird Cool’.Listen to the single and view the tour dates below, and pre-order a flexi-disc via Art Is Hard here.
