Liars DIscuss “Reckless Abandon” Of New Album, ‘Mess’

Angus Andrew speaks to DIY about the lack of concern” that went into making the new record.”

Set for release on 24th March through Mute Records, Liars’ new record will not only follow on from 2012’s ‘WIXIW’, but entirely oppose it. Having previously dubbed the making of ‘Miss’ as ‘almost the exact opposite experience’ to their previous record, it seems they finished the process in much the same vein.

‘After the really long and deliberate process of creating ‘WIXIW’, we felt a natural need to work quickly and with more instinct,’ says Angus Andrew in a DIY interview. He refers to a ‘more immediate - less cerebral’ record, stating: ‘We decided to have fun with the process, to fool around and enjoy the journey rather than think too much about where we were going.

‘It was really nice to work in a way that we hadn’t since we first began the band. A kind of reckless abandon and lack of concern. Sometimes, you can get lost in your own head - I think that’s okay but it’s also really great to release a point of release - to exorcise the demons and finally put them to some good use.’
