Lionel Richie tops UK album chart with post-Glastonbury sales rush

Lionel Richie & The Commodores’ ‘The Definitive Collection’ album has topped the UK Official Album Chart, more than a decade after its initial release.

The 2003 LP jumped 103 places to the top of the charts, enjoying a sales rush following Richie’s Sunday afternoon set at Glastonbury festival.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Richie said: “I was overwhelmed performing at Glastonbury in front of all those people and for the fans to make the album No 1 is unbelievable. The UK has always been a special place for me, thank you, I love you all.”

Last week’s number one, Florence + The Machine’s ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’, went down a place to #12. Wolf Alice’s debut album ‘My Love Is Cool’ went down ten places to #12. James Bay, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran complete this week’s top five.

In the Official Singles Chart, Lost Frequencies’ ‘Are You With Me’ climbed to #1. Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On’ (featuring MØ) was the most streamed track, with 2.2 million plays.
