Listen to Blaenavon cover Harry Styles and Radiohead
The covers come ahead of their massive UK tour later this year.
Little more than a month ago, Blaenavon treated us to a new EP called ‘Prague 99’, and that came just a few months after the release of their debut album ‘That’s Your Lot’.
But the Blaeners are a generous bunch and so they’ve now gifted us with two very different cover versions. The first sees them stripping back Sweet Prince Harry Styles’ single ‘Sign Of The Times’ to just piano, double bass and vocals. For their version of Radiohead’s ‘High And Dry’ though, they recruit a couple of friends: Marika Hackman and Mystery Jets’ Blaine Harrison.
Talking about the covers, Ben Gregory said: “Here you have two very different covers that mean very different things to us. ‘Sign of the Times’ is a massive song… could be a classic, even. The lad’s got an impressive range and we fancied giving it a crack and keeping it sparse. ‘High and Dry’ however, we wanted to go all out. We were lucky enough to be joined by two amazing musicians (Blaine from Mystery Jets and Marika Hackman) and we tried to keep it close to the original, as it’s pretty perfect as is. It’s a beautiful arrangement and I think you can hear how much we’re all enjoying it in the recording”.
The band are also set to embark on a massive UK tour from November. Tickets are on sale now.
