Listen: Bleeding Heart Pigeons Stream Debut EP In Full

Virgin-signed newcomers based in Kimerick, Ireland, share their colossal first work.

Isolation and boredom are traditionally picked up as reasons why a band might leave a dead end town to try out this ‘being in a band’ business. For the most part, it’s a handy explanation to help explain the brilliance of some bands, and it’s probably off the mark.

Bleeding Heart Pigeons are, however, a really exciting band claiming to come out of ‘Nowhere’, or in layman’s terms Kimerick, in Ireland.

Their self-titled debut EP channels aggression, fear and anxiety in one of the rudest awakenings you’re likely to come across. Tackling terrifying subject matter (The Columbine High School shooting in 1999), the three piece of Micháel Keating, Cathal Histon and Brendan McInerney channel alternative giants (Interpol, Menomena) and channel frustrations into something universally dark and twisted.

Newly signed to Virgin, their debut EP is streaming in full below. ‘Visiting Myself In Hospital’ features the most inappropriate use of handclapping ever, while ‘Premeditation’ is a creepy, creaking addition. ‘Catharsis’ completes the trio; a smart, loop-heavy closer.

DIY’s streaming the debut EP in full - it’s out today (16th December) on Virgin:
