Two songs to date from dd elle don’t point towards any kind of musical cubism, but there’s a definite skill to what they’re doing. ‘a note’ from late 2013 is a sweet-as-it-gets introduction, like peering through the looking glass with the eyes of a child. That playful debut’s been backed up by a ‘Kind 2 U’, a similarly playful number but one relying on stranger ingredients. There’s tribal percussion, the kind of funk-laced guitar licks Jungle are currently sporting, and oddball production that Grimes might be boasting on her new album.
