Listen: Kwes Announces Debut Album ‘ilp’, Shares ‘36’ Track
Kwes gives nods to his grandparents in this preview of a debut album on Warp.
London busybod Kwes has taken a couple of years getting round to releasing his debut LP for Warp, but behold: ‘ilp.’ gains release on 14th October in the UK; a ten-track opening statement that’s bound to be a considered beast if ‘36’ is anything to go by.
In Kwes’ own terms, ‘36’ - the album’s lead track - is a sweeping dedication to his grandparents, a closing mantra of ‘I love you both’ being met midway by sparse, ringing piano notes. It’s a far cry from the ‘producer’ tag latched onto Kwes’ stock. If anything this is clean and pure songwriting, albeit a style full of fancy tricks.
‘ilp.”s tracklist and cover art can be gazed at below, alongside a stream of ‘36’.
