Liverpool Sound City: Circa Waves: ‘We Wanted It To Be An Occasion’
Local Liverpool lads played a packed-out set at Sound City last night (1st May).

Last night Circa Waves laid claim to being perhaps the most in-demand band at this year’s Liverpool Sound City.
On day one of the new music festival, the local lads played their first ever headline show in their hometown, leading to a one-in, one-out queue a good hour before their East Village Arts Club performance.
Ahead of the gig, frontman Kieran Shuddall told DIY that he wanted every Liverpool show to be ‘an bit special,’ hence why it took them this long to make their first headline appearance in the city.
‘We played Manchester and Leeds and Birmingham, just to get our chops up. I like the idea of making Liverpool a bit of an occasion for us, all the shows a bit special. We wanted to be the best we could be before we played here.’
The Transgressive signings recently finished an NME tour, including a date at London’s Brixton Academy. ‘Me and my girlfriend went there and I was like, ‘Ah, imagine playing this’. I started to get the band together and a year later… It literally couldn’t have been any sooner. It was just mental.’
Circa Waves play this year’s Great Escape Festival in Brighton, 8th-10th May, before headlining London Lexington on 28th May.
