London O’ Connor unveils music video game for ‘Oatmeal’ track
Head-turning debut has become a playable time-burner.
Like the equally fascinating Raury, London O’Connor is a musician that travels between genres like they don’t matter. Tags are old fodder, pointless means of pigeonholing. Another trait he shares with the Atlanta artist is an ability to make music that sounds like it’s stepping from one fantastical level in a video game to another. Checkpoints and high scores can practically be seen rising up from debut ‘OATMEAL’, a giddy first work choking on cereal, bean bags and a childish laziness.
It’s appropriate, then, that O’Connor’s next move is to make a music video game for the track. It requires a Flash download, but like the song itself, it absorbs the attention, becoming one of 2014’s most tried and tested time-killers. More potent than a session on FIFA, it’s an addictive shooter soundtracked by a brilliant breakthrough track.
