London’s Madame Jojo’s venue has had its licence revoked

News follows a temporary shutdown back in October.

London’s Madame Jojo’s venue has had its music and events licence revoked by the council.

Based in Soho, the venue was initially shut down for a week, following a violent incident on 28th October. Following the temporary closure, the council extended its shutdown for a month.

The news comes from promoters White Heat, who put on a weekly new music night every Tuesday at Madame Jojo’s.

In a statement, the promoters say: “We know a lot of you have been waiting to hear about what’s been going on with White Heat over the past few weeks. About a month ago our home of ten years, Madame Jojo’s, was shut down due to a serious incident of disorder outside. Yesterday the council decided to revoke the venue’s licence rendering us homeless and its staff, our friends, out of a job.

“We’ve been forced to cancel all of our foreseeable shows at the venue and it’s probably going to be impossible to have one last hurrah at Jojo’s for old times sake.”

White Heat have put on shows from Slaves, Broods, Deap Vally and Yuck. Over the past few years, Madame Jojo’s has seen performances from The Horrors, Adele, The xx and Lorde, who made her UK debut at the venue in 2014.
