Mahalia to embrace ‘Luvergirl’ status on imminent new EP
“It feels like the era of girls just taking back a bit of our fucking control, you know?”

Mahalia has confirmed that she’ll be dropping a new EP - entitled ‘Luvergirl’ - on 15th August, a seven-track project which will include recent singles ‘Different Type Of Love’, ‘Pick Up The Pace’, ‘Pressure Points’, and last week’s ‘Instructions’.
Written between the UK, Jamaica, and St Vincent, the collection acts as a follow up to 2023’s ‘IRL’, and sees the R&B favourite embrace her heritage and lean into Jamaica’s vibrant music scene after visiting the Caribbean earlier this year. “It was really important for me to be able to tap into that world,” Mahalia has said of the EP’s direction. “And it’s quite special to hear my voice in that way.”
Explaining more about her ‘Luvergirl’ ethos more generally, she notes: “It feels like the era of girls just taking back a bit of our fucking control, you know, not being slut-shamed, not being taken the piss out of, not being told that we can’t do.
“It’s not that I’m talking about all those issues in the music, but that’s where I was at when I was creating it. And it’s funny because in all the songs, really and truly, it’s me telling these men what to do in a sense.”
