My Morning Jacket debut new song, perform with a little help from their friends
Louisville natives pepper trio of One Big Holiday sets with new tracks, covers and guest appearances aplenty.
Whole bands have formed and split since the appearance of My Morning Jacket’s most recent album. Last properly active in 2011 upon the release of their sixth long-player ‘Circuital’, the Louisville natives have kicked their impending studio comeback into action - two new records are in the works, with the first set to see release this April - by recently completing a mammoth three-day residence at the Mexico-based Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
Entitled One Big Holiday (after their 2003 song of the same name), the band filled each of the long weekend’s individual sets with surprise- using the event to premiere new material (in the form of a track titled ‘Big D’) and perform a comprehensive list of tracks from their rollicking back catalogue.
They also found time to invite many of the three-day festival’s supporting stars (such as Adam Granduciel, Conor Oberst and Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath) on stage to help re-work classic Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Isaak and Mazzy Star tracks.
Catch fan-filmed footage of ‘Big D’ below.
