Nation Of Language confirm details of fourth album ‘Dance Called Memory’
The new record will apparently see the NYC cult favourites lean into an “Eno school of thought”.

Nation Of Language have revealed that their next album - the follow up to 2023’s ‘Strange Disciple’, and their debut LP for new label home Sub Pop - will arrive on 19th September.
Entitled ‘Dance Called Memory’, their fourth full-length was once again recorded with frequent collaborator Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!) in New York, and will span ten tracks (including last month’s preview single, ‘Inept Apollo’).
Speaking about the process of creating ‘Dance Called Memory’, frontman Ian Richard Devaney has explained: “There is a dichotomy between the Kraftwerk school of thought and the Brian Eno school of thought, each of which I’ve been drawn to at different points. I’ve read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all of the humanity from their music, but Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human.
“As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. In this era quickly being defined by the rise of AI supplanting human creators I’m focusing more on the human condition, and I need the underlying music to support that… Instead of hopelessness, I want to leave the listener with a feeling of us really seeing one another, that our individual struggles can actually unite us in empathy.”
Plus, to mark the announcement, Nation Of Language have shared another of the album’s tracks, ‘I’m Not Ready For The Change’ - a soaring synth anthem that’s landed alongside a live video directed by John MacKay. Check it out below.
