Neil Young & Crazy Horse To Return With New Album

Neil Young & Crazy Horse have confirmed plans to release a new album ‘Americana’ on the 5th June.
The last collaborative effort that the two produced was back in 2003, with ‘Greendale’, whilst the last album that the included the original line-up of Crazy Horse was released all the way back in 1996, when ‘Broken Arrow’ was released.
The album, which is made up of classic American folk songs, was recorded at Audio Casa Blanca and was produced by Neil Young and John Hanlon with Mark Humphreys.
Rolling Stone reported that Young spoke about the album at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year: ‘A very young choir of children plays with Crazy Horse [on the album.] They’re songs we all know from kindergarden, but Crazy Horse has rearranged them, and they now belong to us.’
A press release regarding the release also states: ‘What ties these songs together is the fact that while they may represent an America that may no longer exist. The emotions and scenarios behind these songs still resonate with what’s going on in the country today with equal, if not greater impact nearly 200 years later. The lyrics reflect the same concerns and are still remarkably meaningful to a society going through economic and cultural upheaval, especially during an election year. They are just as poignant and powerful today as the day they were written.’
The tracklisting for ‘Americana’ is as follows.
1. Oh Susannah
2. Clementine
3. Tom Dooley
4.
Gallows Pole
5. Get A Job
6. Travel On
7. High Flyin’ Bird
8. She’ll Be Comin ’Round The Mountain
9. This Land Is Your Land
10. Wayfarin’ Stranger
11. God Save The Queen

4 Stars
The songs are rarely improved upon, with the fidelity to ruggedness giving the songs the feel of half-finished demos, but the songwriting itself is, of course, stellar.
