New Issue Of DIY Out Now: Foals, The National, Fall Out Boy & More

DIY’s November magazine is devoted to the bands who managed to take 2013 by storm, be it through a head-turning debut, a triumphant return or a game-changing festival set.

Standing out in a busy crowd is this month’s coverstars, Foals. Their ‘Holy Fire’ record was a much-required step-up, propelling the former Oxford scene heavyweights into starry-eyed territory. They’re now being talked about as future Reading & Leeds headliners.

DIY discovers a group approaching a crossroads, waving goodbye to their buzzy, math-rock past and approaching a status of being one of the UK’s biggest bands.

Also in DIY’s ‘Band of the Year’ issue, Chvrches, Peace & Palma Violets run through their 2013 highlights, from getting stuck in a tree to trying to convince Barack Obama to tweet about an album.

Elsewhere, Bastille’s ridiculous, chart-topping year is revisited on the back of sold out nights at Brixton Academy. Letlive.’s Jason Butler explains how important the last twelve months has been and Biffy Clyro look back on a year that’s still difficult to comprehend.

Pete Wentz has a lot - an awful lot - to say about Fall Out Boy’s triumphant 2013, Paramore discuss making the most head-turning rock album of the year and The National become convinced that they’ve said goodbye to sadness.

Also inside: London Grammar, Savages, Connan Mockasin, Waxahatchee, Swearin’ and DIY goes in the studio with Warpaint. Phew. 2013’s been one hell of a year.
