Orlando Weeks (The Maccabees) announces new book and companion album ‘The Gritterman’
The book concerns the story of a gritterman’s final night on the job.
Since the split of The Maccabees (we’re still sad thinking about it, ok), the band’s members have gone down many different paths. From Felix starting Yala! Records to Hugo producing for the likes of Matt Maltese, there are all manner of things going on for the recently disbanded five-piece.
Maybe the most interesting bit of post-Maccas news comes from frontman Orlando though. He’s announced that he’s written a book! ‘The Gritterman’ comes with a companion album, and concerns the story of a road gritter who loses the job he loves.
“A lot of people’s work goes unrecognised and this is one of those jobs where that’s the case,” Orlando explains in a press release. “To just go about your business and not need thanks is a very attractive quality, and he finds comfort in that sense of purpose.”
The series is narrated by actor and comedian Paul Whitehouse. “The Gritterman is kindly and light-hearted but stoic at the same time and Paul was able to strike that balance perfectly. Funny but thoughtful. He’s been a joy to work with.”
‘The Gritterman’ comes out on 7th September via Particular Books / Penguin. The companion album will be available on the same day on digital streaming services.
