Premiere: Listen: Holy Strays Unveils ‘Pathless March’ From New Single

Sometimes it’s best for a piece of music to keep its mystery; the joy of it can be in imagining where it was produced, what methods went into the process. Sebastien Forrester aka Holy Strays isn’t shying away from revealing all however on his new single, due out via Atelier Ciseaux (Francis Lung, Mount Eerie).

The Parisian releases ‘Pathless March’/’Seance’ on 13th May. It’s a digital release, arriving alongside a fanzine put together by Forrester. The zine documents a recording process in a submarine, located in the port city of St Nazaire. Including pictures and a description of the experience, Sebastien also explains why he was compelled to re-do two beatless tracks given this new inspiration. ‘All the field recordings were made very quickly and my brother tried to capture the particular moment when I was immortalizing the building’s breath and heartbeats,’ says Forrester of the experience. The final piece, ‘Pathless March’, is an eerie, echo-chambering collision of field recordings and misty electronics.

We’re delighted to have the first play of ‘Pathless March’, below. Catch Holy Strays at this year’s Great Escape Festival in Brighton (9th May - Audio, 7.30pm).
