Premiere: Watch: Dan Croll Airs ‘From Nowhere’ Video

Dan’s knack for intense staring comes ‘From Nowhere’ in this intense, competitive new video.

Dan Croll

possesses many talents. Rumour has it he can churn out mammoth pop hits in the space of just a few seconds, with choruses springing out of thin air, everyone else playing catch up. Some say he’s enough inner strength to lift a car, he just prefers not to.

In the new video for ‘From Nowhere’, he takes to the most challenging task of all: A staring contest. This thing is serious. Anyone gutless enough to blink is eliminated, thrown out of the arena (school hall), without a second glance / blink.

We won’t ruin the end, but Dan does pretty well. We asked him some questions about his special talents and his ability to not brag about these things.

Dan Croll - ‘From Nowhere’ is below. ‘Sweet Disarray’ is released on 10th March.

How did you come up with the concept of a staring concept competition?
The song was about struggling to keep up with a girl, and trying to keep up with the intensity of her social and work life. I felt this linked really well with the staring competition, as time goes on, it becomes harder to not blink and drop out of the competition, and like that relationship gets more intense as time goes on.

Do you have any tips on how to maintain a perfect, all-conquering stare?
I think a slight squint can help, when you’re so wide eyed your eyes dry up and it becomes really hard to resist the urge to blink. But with a slight squint it keeps them from drying up and tricks your mind in to thinking your about to blink. Saying that, I was truly awful at not blinking, especially with a camera lens centimetres away from my face.

Congratulations on winning the contest, by the way. Do you have any trophies back home from your school days?
Thank you! I’ve got quite a few back home, all of them sports related, quite a few rugby tournament trophies, maybe a few athletics ones. Oh, and the ‘most likely to become famous’ trophy I got at my high school prom.
