Reading 2011: Patrick Wolf: “It’s A Privilege To Be Able To Speak To My Audience”
We had a chat with the man himself after a signing session with fans.

Patrick Wolf played Reading Festival yesterday (Friday 26th August), and, following a signing session with fans, DIY got him for a quick chat.
‘I only just got here about two hours ago,’ he told us. ‘I went straight into the signing tent, which was amazing because the last time I did it was about three years ago at Underage Festival, and that was quite intense. It was really great. It’s just really nice to be able to spend a few minutes with all your audience and have a chat and talk about what their experiences are. It’s nice hearing what grades people got in their GCSEs and things like that. I like being able to have that opportunity. It’s a real privilege to be able to speak to my audience.’
He also went on to say that playing Reading was one of the first ‘big festival appearances’ for his new album, ‘Lupercalia’: ‘We were on a very long tour and because the album had only come out about a week before Glastonbury, we decided we would play a more out of the way stage. And so this, in a way, is one of the first big festival appearances for this album. Glastonbury was almost a kind of launch festival. But we’ll be back next year and maybe the year after. It’s a great experience and we pulled most of the audience to us.’
Wolf will be playing Leeds Festival today, on the NME/Radio 1 Stage, at 4.15pm. Check back later in the week for the full interview.
