Reading 2013: Drenge: “That Was Just Nuts”

Brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless aka Drenge just got off stage, having played their first ever Reading Festival set. It’s their first show ‘proper’ since the release of their self-titled debut album and, according to the pair themselves, it’s like nothing they’ve experience before.

‘This is the first festival we’ve played since the album’s been out. And jesus christ. Not to blaspheme, but that was just nuts. I was so scared. Full of mistakes. But it’s just weird having people sing the lyrics back to you,’ said Rory.

Eoin continued: ‘There was some guy balling me the whole time and he knew every word,’ before claiming that he’d been inspired by My Chemical Romance’s ‘The Black Parade’ album, by going all-out in the showmanship stakes at the end of the duo’s set.

‘It’s a different thing now. We never really thought about Reading. It’s always been ‘Leeds Leeds Leeds’. It feels like they’re in on the secret here though. It’s the first time I can look at a lot of people and go ‘we know everything, man’.’

Drenge land in Leeds Festival tomorrow, playing the Festival Republic stage. Read DIY’s live blog here.
