Sam Smith performs ‘Lay Me Down’ on Ellen

Alongside Kanye West and Justin Bieber, Sam Smith was another guest to appear on Ellen DeGeneres’ Show last night. The London singer performed ‘Lay Me Down’ on Ellen’s Birthday Show, the same episode which previewed Kanye West’s new video for ‘Only One’.

Smith performed the track with his full backing band before presenting Ellen with a bouquet of flowers as a birthday gift.

Earlier this Sam Smith awarded Tom Petty with a songwriting credit after resemblances between ’Stay With Me’ and Petty’s ‘I Won’t Back Down’ were noted by law. Petty clarified the issue on Thursday, calling it a “musical accident” and that he holds no “hard feelings toward Sam”.
