Sam Smith scores #1 double in the UK Official Chart

Saucy warbler Sam Smith has scored a chart double, topping both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart in the same week.

The singer’s Comic Relief single and collaboration with John Legend, ‘Lay Me Down’, reached sales figures of 105,000 in its first week.

Alongside the singles triumph, debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ returned to the top spot for the sixth separate time - a new chart record.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds missed out on the top spot with new solo album ‘Chasing Yesterday dropping to #4. Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart’ was the highest new entry, placing at #2.

In the Official Singles Chart, Mumford & Sons’ new ‘Believe’ single went straight in at #20.

Sam Smith’s UK tour starts tonight in Glasgow.
