Sell Out
Sam Smith tops one million sales in UK and US
The Grammy nominee is the only artist to achieve the feat in 2014.
Sam Smith’s had a pretty alright year. From bagging the Brit Awards’ Critics’ Choice award and topping the BBC Sound of 2014 poll last year, a whirlwind twelve months has now been capped by the announcement that Smith is the only artist to sell one million albums both here and Stateside.
The saucy warbler’s debut ‘In The Lonely Hour’ was released in May and shot to number one as the fastest-selling debut of the year. Martin Talbot, chief exec of the Official Charts Company said, “To hit a million anywhere is impressive but to become the only artist in the world to do so on both sides of the Atlantic is quite remarkable”.
Earlier in the month it was announced that Smith was nominated for six Grammy Awards, the ceremony to be held on 8th February. Smith is also one of the first three artists confirmed to perform at next year’s BRIT Awards on 25th February, alongside Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.
Sam Smith tours the UK next Spring.
