See ‘Road Dawgs’, a short film about Future Islands
Strap in the belt for the group’s review of 2014.
Future Islands have shared a video that documents their tour around the world in 2014. In what has been a triumphant breakthrough year for the band, the mini-documentary reveals the pressures of touring, reflecting on how hectic the year has been for them as a group and individually
Directed by Jay Buim, who also directed their video for ‘Seasons (Waiting For You)’, ‘Road Dawgs’ captures the realities the group have faced since releasing ‘Singles’ in March. The group announced this week that they will return to Europe in 2015 for appearances at Bilbao BBK Live and Flow Festival.
In the film, they discuss touring (“your body is not supposed to do that’), their newfound success (“it’s not the struggle that it once was. Not it’s about making good art”) and lots more. One of the most poignant scenes comes when Samuel T. Herring discusses his stage persona. Revealing that he passed out in the airport on the way to Primavera, he says “I thought I was gonna die. I thought, ‘We killed it!’.”
Continuing, he says: “I will still bawl at every one out of seven shows, or so. I’ll break down on a stage. And it’s not fake. It’s really from the initial moment of living those things and then feeling them again through the music.”
