Shamir returns with new album ‘Homo Anxietatem

He has also shared the project’s lead single ‘Oversized Sweater’.

Shamir has made his return with details of his ninth studio album and first for his new label Kill Rock Stars. ‘Homo Anxietatem’ will be released on 18th August, produced by Hoost.

He has also shared the project’s first single, ‘Oversized Sweater’. Watch the song’s new video below.

About the song, Shamir has said: “The first quarter of 2020 before lockdown I felt a lot of anxiety. I was fresh out the psych ward and had quit smoking weed and cigarettes cold turkey. I spent the first couple months of 2020 knitting this huge baby blue sweater. It’s basically a wearable security blanket that I used to channel all my anxiety into. I wear it all the time, but most notably in the video for my song ‘Diet’.”

The 28-year-old Philadelphia artist has amassed a following through his work across multiple art forms, from his acting in ‘Dear White People’, to his writing in the book ‘But I’m a Painter’, to running his own label Accidental Popstar Records, and his musical collaborations with Le Tigre, Courtney Barnett, Rina Sawayama and others.

Shamir will tour the UK in October, with dates still to be announced.
