Sky Ferreira and TV On The Radio among acts playing at Standing Rock benefit
Fiona Apple and Devendra Banhart are also set to play We Rock With Standing Rock.
Sky Ferreira, TV On The Radio and Fiona Apple are among the acts set to play at We Rock With Standing Rock a benefit show taking place at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre on 18th December.
Other names set to play at the benefit include Devendra Banhart, Kimya Dawson, Moses Sumney, Holly Miranda and Benjamin Booker. The show will help raise funds for Native Children’s Survival, Seeding Sovereignty Project, Oceti Sakowin Camp and Give Love, all organisations who stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock reservation.
They are opposing the construction of the Dakota access pipeline, which threatens water access, the local environment and the land’s sacred status among Native Americans. While earlier this week the pipeline’s permit was denied, there is still the possibility that the decision will be appealed, particularly in light of the Trump administration’s backing of the project.
TV On The Radio’s Kyp Malone, who is one of the organisers of the gig, told Rolling Stone: “The levels of deprivation, unconscionably low life expectancy, infant mortality, and the adolescent suicide rate all point to the continued need for us to stand in support of First Nations people.” He continued: “We need to keep the light shining on this. We won this battle but the war does go on.”
Tickets for the show go on sale on Friday 9th December.
