Solange curates D’Angelo tribute through website Saint Heron

The tribute will celebrate the 15th anniversary of D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’.

To mark the 15th anniversary of D’Angelo’s album ‘Voodoo’, Solange Knowles has brought together a stream of tributes for her Saint Heron website.

The collection features Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, Thundercat and Kindness and many others, who offer their thoughts and perspectives on D’Angelo’s seminal record.

Beyoncé said of the album, “This is the DNA of black music; all the love, pain, social statements and rawness punctuated by his effortless vocal progression from his funky low register to his sexy falsetto,” while Solange herself wrote, “‘Voodoo’ is the church in which we all come to worship the religion of soul music. It is the word. It is the temple. It is the law for all lovers of true rhythm and blues.”

After fourteen years, D’Angelo recently released ‘Voodoo’’s follow-up, ‘Black Messiah’ at the end of last year, an album that was rush-released in response to the Ferguson protests.
