Solange, Dev Hynes, and Moses Sumney cover Nina Simone’s ‘To Be Young, Gifted and Black’

The singer shared rehearsal footage filmed before her performance at FYF festival in Los Angeles.

Solange has shared footage of her and her band rehearsing a cover of Nina Simone’s ‘To Be Young, Gifted and Black’ before FYF Festival. She was joined onstage in LA by Dev Hynes (Blood Orange), Moses Sumney, and KING.

“It was a really special and spiritual moment of solidarity and pride, in celebrating our blackness,” Solange said of the cover. “I was so grateful to share that with such beautiful like minded artists.”

The performance was something of a reconciliation for Hynes and Solange; the two had a public falling out over artist crediting on Solange’s 2012 EP ‘True’. Hynes was heavily involved creatively in the EP. “I won’t even mention your name ever again,” Hynes tweeted at Solange during the feud. She responded “I just wished you were honest about the making of my album.”

Anyway, Looks like they’re pals again now. Watch Solange, Dev Hynes, Moses Sumney, KING perform Nina Simone’s ‘To Be Young, Gifted and Black’ below.
