Sophie Ellis-Bextor pays homage to ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ with video for new single ‘Freedom Of The Night’
The queen of disco-pop has also recently announced her biggest ever UK tour.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is back, post-Saltburn fever, with a video for latest single ‘Freedom Of The Night’ that nods to the visuals for her iconic 2001 hit ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’.
Filmed at London’s Rivoli Ballroom, the cheeky, self-referential new number sees her return to the arena of dance hall competitions - this time as an overly involved, fiercely ambitious dance mum - to make sure her mini-me triumphs over the other contestants. Both the video for ‘Freedom Of The Night’ and that for ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ were directed by longstanding collaborator Sophie Muller, while the new song’s choreography came courtesy of Polly Bennett - the person behind THAT final dance scene in Saltburn.
“We thought it would be really fun to continue the story from the ‘MOTD’ video,” Sophie has shared. “I am the same cunning person from the video who is trying to win but this time I’m grown up and it’s my fictional daughter who is participating in the dance competition!”
Check it out - and see if you can spot the similarities! - below.
What’s more, Sophie has also announced that she’ll be heading out on the road next year for her biggest UK headline tour to date - a run of shows that will see her perform in some of the nation’s most special venues, including London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall.
