Among other things, Annie Clark pals up with a swan, and delivers the most gif-able wink of 2017.

St Vincent gets kitschy in her 'New York' video

Reportedly returning with a new album later this year, and blazing full steam ahead towards her Fear The Future world tour, St Vincent’s put out the video for her comeback single ‘New York’. It’s yet more evidence that she’s a total legend in the making.

Gaudy, kitschy, and filled with brilliantly bizarre scenarios - from palling up with a domesticated swan, to taking phone calls in a fake florist stage set - the visual for ‘New York’ is obsessed with louder-than-life artificiality and bold, brash plastic. It’s also privy to the most gif-able wink of 2017 thus far.

The video is directed by Alex Da Corte, an internationally renowned visual artist from Philly. As well as being a high-profile figure in the art world, he’s previously collaborated with musicians Dev Hynes, Spank Rock, and Le1f. This is his first ever music video.

“I think Annie’s New York is the New York of my dreams,” he said in a press release, “one that is blurry and fractured, dreamy and flat. It is the Toontown to my Hollywood. It is beautiful but slightly out of reach.”
