Swedish punk HOLY thrashes into view with ‘Lights’ track
“Ooh-la-la”’ing lead is taken from a debut LP, ‘Stabs’, on PNKSLM.
It’s not like Hannes Ferm of HOLY opts for his own native Swedish language on ‘Lights’, but nothing comes more universal than the song’s “ooh-la-la” refrain. It’s a chant that works in any situation, be it teenage kick’ed indie or saucy warbling R&B. In the case of Ferm, it’s a phrase that bridges the gap between the Umeå resident’s furthest imaginations, manifesting into noir-ish, incessantly catchy punk.
‘Lights’ is taken from the debut HOLY album ‘Stabs’, out via PNKSLM (and Swedish label Ny Vag Records) on 11th March. A collection of home recordings, it’s led by a track that jangles its way past contemporaries. Busy-bod guitar parts and reverb-drenched rejoice are the name of the game, and HOLY is top tier when it comes to the dense league of garage rock enthusiasts.
DIY is premiering ‘Lights’ below. Pre-order ‘Stabs’ on PNKSLM here.
