Tame Impala approve of Rihanna’s cover of ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’

“We’re all really happy with how the song turned out, love it!”

Of all the things we expected from ‘ANTI’ - Rihanna’s long-awaited eighth album - a cover of Tame Impala slap bang wallop in the middle of the record probably wasn’t it. Still, RiRi’s evidently a fan of Kevin Parker and co. She did her own version of their ‘Currents’ track called ‘Same Ol’ Mistakes’ - a fairly faithful-to-original cover of ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’.

Though reception to the cover has been varied, Tame Impala are evidently fans; with their management issuing a very enthusiastic statement to NME.

“The Roc Nation [Rihanna’s management] team got in touch with us here at Spinning Top letting us know that Rihanna loved the Tame Impala track ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’. They asked if she could cover the song for her new record. Kevin was more than happy to send it her way. We’re all really happy with how the song turned out, love it!”

There you go then.

Last week Rihanna finally released ‘ANTI’ after a three and a half year album gap. She released the entire record for free via music streaming service TIDAL.
