Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker talks making a meme of Trevor in ‘The Less I Know The Better’
In the new issue of DIY, out now, the frontman discusses ‘FUCK TREVOR’ and more.
“Someone said they left together, I ran out the door to get her / She was holding hands with Trevor, Not the greatest feeling ever,” sings Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker in the opening lines of ‘Currents’ single ‘The Less I Know The Better’. Little did he know, poor Trev would become something of a meme…
“That was amazing!” he laughs in a new DIY cover feature, out today. “I speculate that the birth of it was at a festival in Australia – someone had this huge banner, and I think they were the first person. They made a huge, hand-painted banner that just said ‘FUCK TREVOR’. It just went from there. I saw another one, and it went on and on. It was just one of those things where the network of fans found out about it, and now there’s not a show that we play where someone doesn’t have a ‘FUCK TREVOR’ banner.
“At no point in the song am I showing any kind of disdain towards this character Trevor, however, people obviously can relate to this guy that’s fuckin’ your night up!”
