Tame Impala’s new album ‘Currents’ currently No. 2 in the Official Albums Chart

Years & Years’ debut ‘Communion’ is still in the No. 1 spot.

Tame Impala’s new album ‘Currents’ is currently second only to Years & Years’ debut ‘Communion’ in the UK’s Official Albums Chart, with a gap of 2,000 combined sales. Elsewhere in the Top 5, are chart staples Ed Sheeran, James Bay and Sam Smith.

“When [previous album] ‘Lonerism’ came out I thought that was a pop album,” Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker says in the July issue of DIY. “I was convinced, I thought it was pop with a psychedelic pinch to it. I guess I have the same sentiment with this album.”

“Every melody I’ve ever written is a pop melody,” he explains. “For me, pop is a flavour that you can bring in and out of a song, it’s like an ingredient. If you’re a chef, you sprinkle in a bit. In the last few years, being in the music game, it makes you realise those ‘rules’ are boundaries.”
