Taylor Swift “never expected” Apple Music open letter to have an impact
Streaming giant relented and agreed to pay rights holders during their free trial, following Swift’s letter.
Taylor Swift has spoken for the first time about the impact of her open letter to Apple Music.
Back in June, the streaming giant agreed to pay rights holders during its three month, free trial period. Reversing their initial stance, the decision came eight days before its launch on 30th June. “We hear you @taylorswift13,” said Eddy Cue, senior Vice Presents of Internet Software and Services.
Speaking to Q Magazine about her impact, Swift said: “I had no idea what would happen but I just wanted to say something.”
“I didn’t really expect anything to happen at all.”
At the time, Swift’s letter called out Apple Music, saying it didn’t represent the wishes of independent artists, not just music giants. ““These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.”
