Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ won’t be streaming on Apple Music

Apple Music has presented itself as a more artist-friendly alternative to Spotify, and one of the most high-profile feuds regarding the latter happened last year, when Taylor Swift removed her entire catalogue from the service. Labelling it a “grand experiment,” she said: “I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music.”

New reports suggest T-Swift isn’t giving everything to Apple Music, either. Buzzfeed claims that representatives for both Apple and Swift’s Big Machine label have confirmed that Apple Music has been unable to secure rights to last year’s smash-hit ‘1989’. There’s one positive for the service, however - they’ve secured rights to the rest of her back catalogue, so they’re in a similar situation to Rdio and Tidal.

The new service is set to launch on 30th June. Negotiations with major and independent are ongoing.
