The 1975 share surreal new video for ‘The Birthday Party’

Matty Healy and co. go for a digital detox in their latest ‘Notes…’ clip.

Currently in the midst of their big ol’ UK arena tour, The 1975 have shared another taste of their forthcoming new album.

Following on from the acoustic ditty ‘Me & You Together Song’, they’ve now shared ‘The Birthday Party’, alongside a surreal, 3D-ish video which sees Matty Healy visiting a digital detox centre, ahem.

Working with director Ben Ditto and co-director / lead artist Jon Emmony - who worked on their vid for ‘People’ - the clip’s a suitably strange one, with Matty coming across a host of meme-based characters, and digital avatars of his bandmates.

“It was truly inspiring to work with The 1975 on this project, combining digital craft with true emotion and a subversive and multilayered narrative,” Ben says, of the video. “Matty and I have a shared fascination with the underbelly of Internet culture and how that impacts modern life, and we looked to address this from several directions and created an engaging and beautiful piece of filmmaking to contain these messages and their performance in a revolutionary way.”

The track gets taken from the band’s forthcoming new album ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’, which is due for release on 24th April via Dirty Hit / Polydor.
