The Drums share new track ‘Head of the Horse’
The latest cut from ‘Abysmal Thoughts’ was inspired by Jonny Pierce’s Pentecostal preacher parents.
It’s not too long now before The Drums release their new album
‘Abysmal Thoughts’ on 16th June via ANTI- and after sharing ‘Blood Under My
Belt’ and ‘Heart Basel’recently, they’re not horsing around.
New track ‘Head of the Horse’ isn’t anything to do with that
famous scene in ‘The Godfather’ but is instead another deeply personal tune
from Jonny Pierce. The frontman explained in a statement that it’s been
inspired by his own anti-LGBTQ Pentecostal preacher parents.
As reported by Pitchfork, he says that his childhood as “riddled
with self-doubt, confusion and a lot of self-date”. He continued: “I find that
the past still dominates a lot of my daily experiences – sometimes to the point
of feeling paralyzed. The goal is to heal, and I think I am – but at a much
slower pace than I am comfortable with”.
