The Horrors Discuss New Album, 6 Music Festival Performance

XL signings spoke to DIY ahead of the release of new album ‘Luminous’.

Interview: Danny Wright

Last weekend The Horrors played a storming set at BBC 6 Music’s first ever festival, held at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

Instead of showcasing a set consisting entirely of new material from fourth album ‘Luminous’, the London band gave songs from ‘Skying’ one last hurrah, in a set that only featured ‘I See You’ in terms of new tracks.

Speaking to DIY at the festival, Tom Furse and Josh Hayward described the set as ‘the last chapter in a book,’ ahead of a world tour to back up their forthcoming LP on XL Recordings.

On the new album, Tom said it could be a divisive work. ‘Some people will say it’s not different enough and some will say it’s too different – we’ve pushed ourselves into a corner a little bit.’

Recording sessions ‘felt like a slog’ but were ‘worth it,’ he added. They made a lot of ‘good music’ which was eventually scrapped - ‘it just wasn’t exciting us or pushing our buttons enough and that was hard to deal with.’

Listen to the brilliant ‘I See You’ and watch their 6 Music Festival performance below.

The Horrors’ ‘Luminous’ is out 5th May on XL Recordings.
