The National aren't releasing new album in 2016, says Matt Berninger

Bad news, National fans. Matt Berninger has revealed in a new Q&A that the band aren’t going to be releasing the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Trouble Will Find Me’ next year.

Berninger is currently on tour in Europe with his new project EL VY, and was answering questions from his Copenhagen hotel room. Between talking about the new band, a collaboration with Brent Knopf of Ramona Falls and Menomena, Berninger quashed the idea of National LP7 arriving in 2016.

The National performed a new song, called ‘Roman Candle’ live recently, and Berninger has said the band will continue playing new songs live next year. No UK dates have yet been announced for next year, but the band are set to play two nights at the Belly Up venue in Aspen, Colorado at the end of the year.

They then head to Australia and New Zealand next Spring. One European show has also been announced, with the band set to play Tinderbox festival in Denmark on 23rd June. Does a Glastonbury-shaped hole follow?

Berninger is set to play two sold out nights at London’s Electric Ballroom with EL VY this month, playing the venue on 9th and 10th December.

Watch part one of Berninger’s Q&A below, and view the other sections here and here.
