The National debut new song 'Roman Candle' at L.A. show

The National performed a new song, ‘Roman Candle’, live last night.

The track was aired at a benefit concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, and Matt Berninger says it’s one of a number of new tracks the band have completed for the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Trouble Will Find Me’.

Back in August, Berninger said the band had “30 sketches” of songs for the new album, and now they’re clearly morphing into fully-formed tracks.

The only other new material seen from the band since ‘Trouble…’ is ‘Sunshine On My Back’, an unreleased track that came as a free download with the band’s documentary ‘Mistaken For Strangers’.

The National ended their enormous world tour for ‘Trouble Will Find Me’ at London’s O2 Arena last November, and have since only played a smattering of shows, including a headline appearance at theirs and Bon Iver’s new festival, Eaux Claires, in Wisconsin back in July.
