The National have shared a behind the scenes documentary about ‘Sleep Well Beast’
‘Something Out Of Nothing’ invites you inside their studio.
Today, The National have unveiled their much-anticipated new album ‘Sleep Well Beast’ and, spoiler alert if you still haven’t heard it yet, it might well be their best album in a good few years.
We’ve heard The National playing ‘Sleep Well Beast’ at festivals, and very recently they also performed the whole album live for NPR, but now they’re offering a bit of a different peek into the record. Available via the New York Times, they’ve shared a new behind the scenes documentary, directed by Oscar nominee Marshall Curry, called ‘Something Out OF Nothing’ – and it’s a VR experience!
Anyone who’s got Oculus can insert themselves into the studio as the band perform via the NY Times’ app, but you can also check out the documentary – which shifts between recording in their Hudson Valley studio and a gig in Copenhagen – via desktop. You can watch them both on stage and in the studio, and have a look round the room at the same time using the 360º cameras. It’s a fine way to see how they went from the recording sessions to their fleshed-out live shows.
You can check out ‘Something Out Of Nothing’ via the New York Times website here.
Meanwhile, revisit the slightly trippy video for recent single ‘Day I Die’ below (there’s no creepy silhouettes like this in the VR documentary, promise!)
