The Notwist Sign To Sub Pop, Announce ‘Close To The Glass’ Album
German group return for a Sub Pop / City Slang release, out next February.
Without rendering this excellent news an anticlimax, there were a fair few expectant fans anticipating some kind of grand unveiling from Radiohead, TV On The Radio (DIY’s guess) or even Battles from Sub Pop. Last week the Seattle label asked fans to ‘guess the artist’ based on an eerie 15-second sample.
‘Every once in a while, we take a break from all that t-shirt stuff and we get to sign an artist that we’ve been HUGE fans of for years—artists with an established fan base who would be welcome at any record label that they please (why they choose us, we’ll never know),’ stated the label.
Said artist turns out to be The Notwist, returning with ‘Close to the Glass’, their first album in six years. No doubt its title track sounds like Nigel Godrich has positively stamped all over it, but it’s not Radiohead. Honest. It’s actually the sound of an exciting return from the German group.
