Thom Yorke calls out “staggering hypocrisy” of UK government’s tax avoidance policy
Radiohead frontman is scoring a new documentary, ‘The UK Gold’, devoted to the subject.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has spoken out against the “staggering hypocrisy” of the UK government and its policies towards tax avoidance.
A new documentary, ‘The UK Gold’, is set to air this month. Yorke and Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja provide the score, with Guy Garvey and Rose Elinor Dougall set to contribute music.
Directed by Mark Donne, with actor Dominic West narrating, the film explores the extent and complexity of the UK’s tax haven network.
Offering a comment to NME on the film, Thom Yorke asked: “Just who does our government work for?”
“For all the current governments talk of standards in the Financial Industry it comes as no surprise perhaps that the reality beneath reveals their staggering hypocrisy,” he said. “Now is the time to reveal the revolving doors between government and the City that has bred lies and corruption for so long, siphoning money through our tax havens for the global super rich, while now preaching that we the people must pay our taxes and suffer austerity.”
‘The UK Gold’ airs 25th February on London Live. Watch a trailer below, featuring Channel 4 host Jon Snow.
