Thundercat shares immersive video for bittersweet Mac Miller collab ‘She Knows Too Much’

Thundercat has followed up the recent announcement of his fifth studio album - and first in six years - with new single ‘She Knows Too Much’, a punchy yet poignant offering that features vocals from his close friend Mac Miller, who tragically passed away in 2018.

Having received permission from the Mac Miller Estate to complete and share the track with the world, Thundercat has reflected on how special it was to have one last collaboration with the rapper. “I’m grateful to have spent my time on this planet with Mac,” he says. “What an artist, what a spirit, what a joy to have experienced.”

‘She Knows Too Much’ has also arrived accompanied by a brilliantly bonkers video, in which animated versions of Thundercat and Mac set out on a mind-boggling road trip, venturing through a neon-lit red light district, a roller-coaster cityscape, a disco bowling alley and more. Layering animation techniques, characters, and universes on top of each other - akin to Everything Everywhere All At Once, or Inception - it’s a vibrant, joyful tribute to the pair’s friendship.

Speaking about her ideas for the visual, director Léa Esmaili has explained that she “wanted to create, within a single video, a fun animated moment by mixing styles - either it’s 2D animation or 3D. Beyond that, I wanted to build a burlesque narrative around two friends who spend a completely crazy day together, tied to their friendship and to anime of this kind.”
