Thundercat announces first album in six years, 'Distracted'; shares Lil Yachty collab 'I Did This To Myself'

Thundercat is back, having just confirmed that his new album ‘Distracted’ will be hitting shelves on 3rd April via Brainfeeder.

It’ll be the bass aficionado’s fifth full-length, and his first since ‘It Is What It Is’ came out back in 2020. Created in close partnership with producer to the stars Greg Kurstin (Adele, Paul McCartney, Beyoncé), the record also saw him team up with Flying Lotus, Kenny Beats (Kenneth Blume), and The Lemon Twigs for additional production, and A$AP Rocky, WILLOW, Tame Impala, Channel Tres, Lil Yachty, and the late Mac Miller for track features.

Ushering in this new era is lead single ‘I Did This To Myself’, which sees Thundercat and Yachty lament the way they’re treated by one very busy social (media) butterfly, epitomising the album’s exploration of digital interactions, technological overstimulation, and modern society’s dependence on its titular distractions.

Presenting a no-pressure, honest space where confusion and exhaustion are entirely permitted, Thundercat has suggested that listeners “just enjoy it and have fun, and just know that the struggle is real and changes shape, but just to keep pushing forward.”
