Tourist airs ‘Illuminate feat. Years & Years’ video

Will Philips aka Tourist is airing a new video for his ‘Illuminate’ single, which features the unmistakable vocal of Years & Years’ Olly Alexander.

With both artists heading for a huge 2015, the video takes Philips’ obsession with 3D games to new levels. Inspired by Japanese graphic artists such as Yuichi Yokoyama, the video’s completely animated, telling the story of a protagonist struggling to understand the meaning of a letter, written in a language he can’t understand.

Director Nicolas Ménard says: “It’s also been really fun to play with the idea of translating a poem into Korean; a little metaphor for miscommunication in a relationship. I’m looking forward to seeing whether people dig out those cryptic messages.”

Tourist adds, of the video: “When it came to visuals, my dream scenario was to animate something for the video, and we were incredibly fortunate to get to work with Nicolas. I implicitly trust his taste and was keen to let him go wherever he wanted with the video.”
