Wampire announce ‘Bazaar’ album, stream ‘Wizard Staff’ track

The sense of intrigue hasn’t dampened with Wampire since the release of their 2013 debut ‘Curiosity’. A strange mix of sluggish rock and more immediate numbers, it gave an assured introduction to the Portland pair of Rocky Tinder and Eric Phipps.

Today the pair return with news of a second album, ‘Bazaar’. It’s out 6th October on Polyvinyl, with Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait at the production helm.

Lead track ‘Wizard Staff’ gives a distinct impression of what’s to come. In one respect it could pass for the theme song of ‘True Detective’ Season 2 - on the other, it’s a bit too weird for that role. Mixing sax, space-age synths and chugged guitars in one sleepy embrace, it’s both lethargic and beaming with ideas at the same time. Clever buggers.
